The TR19 is a BESA defined standard by which building engineers can adhere to in terms of installation of kitchen and duct extraction systems in commercial premises. As the standard has been added to over the years it also helps to standardise best practice in the cleaning of these systems – and as such is the standard that The Kitchen Cleaning Group observes when cleaning these systems.
BESA – The Building Engineering Services Association
Previously known as the HVCA, the BESA oversees facilities management and building practise across the UK. The TR19 standards were put together over 20 years ago to safeguard the building industry and make sure that commercial premises were clean and safe for insurance purposes. As a catering business it is a requirement for your buildings insurance that you have your extraction and canopy systems cleaned and inspected between 1 and 3 times a year.
Inspection
KCG will give a full quotation and inspection based on the following criteria:
Visual – appearance of duct, canopy, filters and fan. Photos and video taken where necessary.
Measurement of grease levels – using the Wet Film Thickness Test, we will analyse the levels of grease deposit in all areas of the system, from canopy to fan/motor and discharge duct.
Cleaning
We use a variety of methods to get your ductwork clean and TR19 certified. This goes from hand scraping the excess levels of grease to our brush system and high pressure steamers. Post clean we will send you a full report of all areas cleaned alongside some images taken before and after where possible. We will highlight if there are unreachable areas in the system – this is the case where access is difficult/impossible due to building design.
Certification
This report then becomes applicable for you an your insurance purposes – and we will issue a certificate once the clean has been done and we will stay in touch regards to future cleans.
